Algorithmic Bias Reading Respone

Where do we see examples of algorithmic bias around us?

- AI has been seen used in job applications, police departments and with our personal devices

Had you heard of any of these examples?

- I have heard it occurring in job applications and police department, but it is starting to be more alarming.

Does this change our perception of computers (infallibility, certainty etc)?

- Personally, this doesn't change my perception of computers because we as humans teach or train these devices to do what they do. A computer doesn't one day wake up and do this on it's own. As we move to a word that is more tech savvy, some things don't need to involve technology as much as we make them do. Sure it maybe a good idea to use it in police departments for certain cases, but job applications is extreme.

How can we use awareness of this issue to make better choices, decisions, or share?

- Because policymakers seem to be pushing toward technological advancements, it could be a little hard to show awareness to unfairness that regular people have to face. If we continue to show awareness, companies like the EEOC could try to minimize or get rid of AI for job applications.
